Project Case Study
Client: Production Products Manufacturing & Sales Co., Inc.
Location: Saint Louis, MO, 63138
Project Overview
Production Products Manufacturing & Sales Co., Inc., a leader in their industry, required the installation of a high-performance Garmat paint booth to enhance their operations. This project utilized a semi-downdraft paint booth system, a cost-effective solution that eliminates the need for extensive structural modifications like pit excavation. The system combines downdraft and crossdraft airflow principles, ensuring effective overspray control and optimal air quality.
Key Deliverables
1. Paint Booth Installation
- Semi-Downdraft System:
- Installed a semi-downdraft airflow system, introducing air from the ceiling at the front portion of the booth (25–30%) and exhausting through floor-level vents at the rear.
- This design provided an efficient and practical alternative to traditional downdraft systems, maintaining airflow efficiency without requiring a basement or raised platform.
- Booth Structure:
- Assembled modular wall panels with an airtight seal using tongue-and-groove construction.
- Installed ceiling fixtures and LED lighting for shadow-free illumination, along with product entry doors equipped with observation windows for enhanced visibility.
2. Mechanical and Airflow Systems
- Air Handling Units:
- Integrated high-efficiency air handling units (AMUs) with direct-fired burners for precise temperature and airflow control.
- Exhaust System:
- Connected floor-level vents and filters to ensure proper removal of overspray and compliance with environmental standards.
3. Electrical and Control Systems
- Touchscreen Controls:
- Installed a user-friendly control panel to manage spray, bake, and purge cycles, providing operators with full system control.
- Safety Enhancements:
- Incorporated pressure monitoring systems (manometers) and other safety features to meet OSHA and NFPA standards.
4. Testing and Calibration
- System Optimization:
- Performed comprehensive testing and calibration of airflow patterns, temperature settings, and safety systems to ensure peak performance.
Results and Benefits
- Cost-Effective Solution: The semi-downdraft system avoided the need for pit excavation, reducing costs and installation time while maintaining excellent airflow efficiency.
- Improved Air Quality: The booth effectively controlled overspray and maintained clean air in the workspace.
- Regulatory Compliance: The installation met all applicable safety and environmental standards.
- Enhanced Productivity: The new paint booth has expanded the client’s capabilities, supporting higher-quality output and improved operational efficiency.
